All iPhones from iPhone 6 plus upward has great video quality but the big downside is to record good audio.

Three  Ways to Record Audio on the iPhone

The first way is to use its built-in microphone which is the worst option. The Second way is to record through the Audio Jack on the iPhone or an android phone. This option is not so great but better than the first option as the built-in mic also records the body vibrations making the audio in usable.

The types of solutions available to tap into the Audio Jack of the iPhone are as follows.

IK Multimedia I Rig Voice:

The Irig voice from IK multimedia is an affordable option to record audio directly into the iPhone or Ipad. The Irig Mic is a higher quality option but still, the quality is limited by the ADDA converters in the iPhone which is not optimised for high-quality recording. If your budget is below 5k and you are just wanting to do it for fun then this is a very good option.

The next option is to record audio through the Iphones lightning connector thereby bypassing the low-quality audio circuitry of the phone. Though there are some mics from IK multimedia that can be plugged into the iphone the best option is to buy a proper sound card from Steinberg like the UR-22 Mark II. The sound card has out of this world  Yamaha D-Pre preamps, state of the art ADDA converters with support up to 192 kHz. This solution works both on your iPhone, Ipad or your Mac or PC desktop computer. You can buy the UR 22 Mark II Recording Pack if you are looking for a quality microphone and headphone along with the Sound card. The bonus is that the Steinberg Cubasis an entry-level version of the famous Steinberg Cubase Pro is available free of cost as an app for your iPhone and iPad.
