I Mac Pro – Super Computer Reinvented

After 15 years of my career as an Apple Certified Trainer for FCP – From FCP 3 to FCP 10.4, I can see that more exciting times are ahead with the release of the Apple iMac Pro machines with souped-up configurations starting at an 8 core machine with 32 GB RAM and 8 GB Graphics for 5000 US$ up to a staggering 18 core machine with 128 GB RAM, 16 GB Graphics and 4 TB SSD, its a dream come true for all of us.

All this while it was a complex workflow as you need to export the FCP project to Davinci Resolve to do Color grading and then finally get it back to FCP as Resolve is not good enough for Titles etc. Now with FCP 10.4, that workflow is not required anymore. You can start and finish your project in FCP timeline itself, thanks to the advanced Color correction Engine inside of FCP 10.4.

Looking at the machine specs itself the base machine with a Promise or Lacie Thunderbolt 3 storage and going to be good for all you feature film projects.

The bad news is that the RAM is not upgradable like the 27″I Mac but the blessing in disguise is that the RAM can be upgraded by Apple Service Providers. There is also a tip that the CPU is also upgradable but it may possibly void the warranty but this machine is to stay for a long haul.

As a 1 TB SSD is enough for most installations with a decent external Thunderbolt storage you can easily work on your 4k and 6k projects.

The support for 3D VR in the latest release of FCP is a welcome addition.  Now its time to upgrade your OS to 10.13 High Sierra, now that both FCP and Logic are fully compatible with this OS and third-party audio apps like Cubase is also compatible with 10.13. At this time only Nuendo 8 is not fully tested but that should happen soon.

Moving forward we would be posting Tips and Tricks on effective working on FCP 10.4… folks its time to move back from other NLE’s like Premier and Avid. FCP 10.4 is here to rock.

We are offering Apple Pro Certification on FCP 10.3 along with a free module from us to get you to speed with Advanced Color grading in FCP 10.4. It time to become an Apple Certified Pro and restart your FCP Journey.
